Description

Basil is a species of herb belonging to the Lamiaceae family, cultivated mainly as an aromatic plant and a culinary condiment. Native to South Asia, it is a hardy plant with fragrant foliage found mainly in sunny regions. It was imported to Egypt at least 4,000 years ago. Now grown around the world, it remains closely associated with Asian and Mediterranean culture and gastronomy.
