Description
The bergamot is the fruit of a tree belonging to the Rutaceae family. Over the past several centuries it has been grown mostly in the Reggio Calabria region of Italy, where its cultivation is the foundation of a local industry. It is also cultivated on a smaller scale in Morocco and Portugal. Bergamot is used mostly for the oil extracted from its peel, which has applications in the food industry as well as the perfumery and cosmetics sectors.
