The cedar Thuja occidentalis L., or Northern white-cedar, is a conifer from the Cupressaceae family, native to North America. It can reach heights of 10 to 20 meters, with a straight trunk and reddish-brown, fibrous bark. Its dark green, scaly, and evergreen leaves are arranged in opposite pairs. This tree, often pyramidal when young, becomes cylindrical with age.
